If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to Microsoft Office but still for a full featured Office suite then I recommend trying out OpenOffice 2. It looks similar to the Microsoft Office applications and can read and write in the Microsoft formats so you have full compatibility when sending and receiving documents. It also has the built in option to print to PDF so you can create Acrobat files without having to invest Adobe products.
