Common Mistakes and Getting Started

Getting online is quite a daunting task and many people make the same mistakes when starting out. Here are some pointers to get you up and running and presenting yourself and your business as a professional outfit.

TYPOS!!!

Spelling and grammar are the most important things to watch for. You are looking to present yourself as a professional online. Sloppy spelling and poor grammar scream unprofessional and show no attention to detail. Would you buy or use a company that shows no attention to detail? If you need help with your text and finding the right words to describe your services then contact a professional.

Blue borders on images that have hyperlinks - use the style sheet option or HTML modules to remove the borders. As with typos showing the border screams an amateur web designer and a poor image. See here for more info.

Be clear and concise on your home page.

State your business and what you have to offer - have a call to action and tell people what to do.

'Call Now' or 'Order now!'

Think Billy Mays from the TV Ads but don't go overboard!

Keep it simple to start with and build over time - don't go all out on your first attempt and end up diluting the message you are trying to get across.
